Northwest Regional Scottish Harp Competition 2009

The competition consists of three preliminary competitions at three Highland Games, culminating in a final competition for the regional championship.

Competition Categories:

Beginning Harp, Intermediate Harp, Advanced Harp, Harp and Voice (self-accompanied or two people).

Competition Schedule:

Ferndale WA - Bellingham Scottish Highland Games (see www.bhga.org)
Saturday June 6 - Harp Circle 1:00 pm (open to all)
Sunday June 7 - Northwest Regional Scottish Harp Competition 1:00 pm
(followed by a Harp Circle open to all).

Mt. Vernon WA - Skagit Valley Highland Games (see www.celticarts.org)
Saturday July 11 - Harp Circle 1:00 pm (open to all)
Sunday July 12 - Northwest Regional Scottish Harp Competition 1:00 pm
(followed by a Harp Circle open to all).

Enumclaw WA - Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games (see www.sshga.org)
Saturday July 25 - Northwest Regional Scottish Harp Competition 1:00 pm
(followed by a Harp Circle open to all).
Sunday July 26 - Northwest Regional Scottish Harp Competition Finals 1:00 pm
(followed by a winners' Harp Circle, and then a Circle open to all).

Competition Pieces:

Beginning Harp: Oran Mór Mhic Leòid (arrangement provided below).
Intermediate Harp:  One own-choice piece of Highland or Celtic origin (additional points possible for self-arrangement).
Advanced Harp:   Nancy Clough's March (arrangement provided below), and one own-choice piece of Highland or Celtic origin.
Harp and Voice:  O Luaidh (melody, words, suggested chords provided below; pronunciation Quicktime file below).
