Welcome to our featured harp music section!  Every quarter (March, June, September, and December) we will feature a work by one of our talented Pacific Northwest harp composers and arrangers. You are welcome to download and print a copy of this music for your personal private use. Spring's Featured Harp Music: If I Had Wings and Elenke.

This spring, our featured harp music is the two group tunes presented at January's PSFHS Winter Festival at Fort Worden. Festival program director Harper Tasche chose and arranged these two tunes for all to share. Here is what he has to say about them:

"If I Had Wings ('Da bi imal perje') is a haunting Croatian song of longing, sung by one who is far from home. The lyrics use the familiar image of a bird who can fly to the singer's home, Medjimurje County, in the northern corner of Croatia, which has a dove as one of its symbols. Medjimurje County has been known since Roman times as a region of beauty, described as an island garden between two rivers. This song should be played simply and plaintively.

"Elenke is a Bulgarian relative of the well-known English ballad 'Barbara Allen.' Try starting this tune at a moderate pace, and building up
speed with each repetition until the rhythmic drive of the music takes over!"
